Keep a lookout for a sign that says “Nesook Dump” (usually takes 30 to 45 minutes to get here). Stay on this road for approximately 23 kilometres. Take the next right (still following the signs to Tahsis). Cross the bridge and turn left (still following the signs to Tahsis) that leads over another bridge. In a few minutes, the pavement will lead you to a bridge. Wide logging trucks and transport trucks use this road daily, including weekends. Turn your lights on and drive carefully – you may meet a logging truck. When you get to Gold River, if you are not going to the Gold River boat launch and you wish to get to Cougar Creek or Critter Landing – don’t turn left down into the town, just keep going, following the signs to Tahsis. It’s paved to the boat launch in Gold River, but if you choose to launch at Cougar Creek the road between Gold River and Cougar creek is largely unpaved and can be hard on boats and trailers. From Gold River if you’re towing a boat 17 feet or bigger, we recommend launching at the beach in Gold River and running up Muchalat Inlet by boat. There is cell phone service in Gold River (but not beyond in either direction) if you need to alert us that your pick up arrangements should be altered. You should budget an hour to an hour and a quarter for the trip. They may have a map of the forestry roads to Cougar Creek. When you arrive in the town of Gold River, stop at the tourist information booth (it’s on the right side of the highway you’re on by the large wood boot carving).
